This is an old Charles Wesley hymn I’ve grown to love as a part of our worship at College Street, and I want to recommend it if you aren’t currently using it. It’s a great hymn to kick off a worship service, and I love the way it summons every instrument, creature, and voice in all of heaven and earth to praise the Lord. It’s a great gathering hymn or call to worship and it doesn’t feel old–not that there’s anything wrong with that.

It is basically a paraphrase of Psalm 150, with elements of Matthew 6:9-10, Isaiah 66:1, James 1:17, and Acts 17:28 incorporated. Hope you grow to love it as much as I do!

Psalm 150.

Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens!

Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness!

Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp!

Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe!

Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals!

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!

  1. Did you write this tune, Chad? I’d love to have the copyright info (if there is any) so I could start using it!

    1. Christian, I’m singing it how it’s composed in the Baptist Hymnal #33. The guitar chords are tabbed by me, but anyone is free to download the PDF and use em!
